By A Silicon Valley-based data firm that serves the chemicals and materials industry has expanded to Pittsburgh. Citrine Informatics announced Monday that it had opened an office at Bakery Square, the first office away from Silicon Valley. It wasn’t clear how many employees would be at the Citrine offices.

“We are quickly staffing up as demand dictates,” a company spokeswoman told the Pittsburgh Business Times.

Citrine is headquartered in Redwood City, Calif.

“Our new Pittsburgh office allows us to work more closely with some of our most important customers, helping them to accelerate product development using breakthrough artificial intelligence,” said Citrine Informatics CEO Greg Mulholland in a statement. “We could not be more excited to expand in a location that is a nexus of computer science and materials science talent, a long history of innovation in the materials and chemicals industry, and a vibrant community for our team.”
